ExpressionEngine 2.5.4 Released

Today, we’ve released a stability release of ExpressionEngine. This release focuses on stability and security but also includes a few additions. Here’s a summary of the changes in ExpressionEngine 2.5.4:

  • New global variables{current_url} will display the full URL of the current page, and {current_path} displays the current URI path relative to your ExpressionEngine installation.
  • Order channel entries by status – Set orderby="status" and you’re good to go.
  • Disable comment pagination – Just as you can disable pagination on Channel Entries to save processing overhead, disable="pagination" now works for Comment Entries.
  • Security improvements – Custom Main Menu Links and Quick Links are XSS cleaned, clickjacking and other malicious activity enabled by iframing the control panel have been disabled, and generation of salt, salted password, and crypt key on user registration are just some of the security improvements included.
  • Bug fixes – The bug fixes in this release include bugs affecting member group management, SafeCracker, and forum template rendering using the forum’s module tag.

Again, we’d like to remind you the next major release of ExpressionEngine will be increasing its server requirements to PHP 5.2.4 and MySQL 5.0.3.

Comments & Feedback

  1. I’ve grabbed the 2.5.4 archive twice. There’s several zero byte files: /system/expressionengine/config/config.php, database.php, among others.

  2. @TrevC, those files are supposed to be empty.  EE writes to them once you do your install.

Keep up the great work EllisLab!  It’s obvious you’ve been listening to the community grin
